When he cooks...

When he cooks, my cheeks hurt from smiling
And I am in awe at the tender loving care and concentration in his face.

When he cooks, it's glorious
Simply because it is a treat to love a man who will give me a break sometimes.

When he cooks there's a tingle down my spine
And I can't wait to thank him later ;)

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach,
The way to mine...is when he cooks!

Funky Love

Last night, when I took a shower, the hot water was luke warm.  Fortunately Spring has arrived in Toronto and it was bearable.  By the time poor Husband took his shower, it was frigid and he was out of there like a cat caught in the rain.

This afternoon, I phoned the superintendent to advise of the situation and he sympathized with me saying he had not taken a shower or shaved yesterday.  Apparently the boiler broke and although I was assured that the problem would be fixed by 6:00pm today, it is now after 10:00pm and we have just above freezing water in the taps.

So in an effort to prevent funky love in this household, I am using my raised in Africa, slash, girl guide trained, slash common sense to use the biggest pots in my house (put them to good use!) and make me some hot water!  And who says I am not domesticated?!

Now to go and take that bucket bath...if I close my eyes, I may just catch a whif of that African soil near my grandparents hut and memories of sunshine and simpler, times.

Friends with Kids

This weekend was characterized by visiting friends with kids.  It started out on Saturday when we went to my friend’s four year old son’s birthday 2 hours drive away, followed by a Sunday afternoon visit to my cousins’ house to see her two bambinos and their grandparents who had just arrived from across the Atlantic to help take care of them for a few months and finally an evening visit to the newest person I know, born a week and a half ago to her joyful parents.
It was lovely to see all these little children and the frenzy they create for the adults that dote on them.  The love between parent and child is undoubtedly something none but the participants could ever describe.  But afterwards, when my Hubby and I drove to our quiet abode and blissfully prepared for another week, our work as Auntie and Uncle done, my little run-from-responsibility-self coudn’t help the tiny thought, that it might not be so bad to live this way happily ever after.

Bootylicious Meatloaf

Hubby and I are both all there.  No seriously, I mean ALL there.  We both have curves.  His are hard, mine are soft, but the great thing is that we love each others!  One of my favourite, curvy, cuddly meals to make for us is Meatloaf.  Yum!  Here’s how I made it today...

1.5 pounds Regular ground beef
2 squirts of Worcestershire sauce
1 squeeze of mustard
1 teaspoon Basil
3 pinches of salt
1 pinch of pepper
6 slices of raisin bread
1 glass of red wine
2 eggs
1 can of sardines
2 mixing bowls
1 pyrex 9 x 12 baking dish (or two loaf tins or 4 mini loaf tins...you get the drift)

In one bowl place the raisin bread and pour the red wine over it - let stand
In the other bowl, mix the ground beef with each of the rest of the ingredients one by one, except for the eggs.
Cooks Tip:  Hold the bowl with one hand while you mix with your other hand.  Yes, mix with you hand!  The love will flow straight from your heart along your pulse rate and through your palms, right into the meatloaf...and later into his stomach:-)
Tear up the raisin bread into small pieces and then mince together using your fingertips.
Add the bread and wine mixture to the rest of the ingredients.  Mix well.
Add the eggs and mix well.
Grease baking dish.
Pat meatloaf into the baking dish making sure all the corners are filled.
Bake on middle rack at 350 for 20 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out dry.
Pour pasta sauce over the top of the meatloaf and bake for another 5 minutes.
Serve with citrus salad and boiled sweet potatoes and a light red wine.

Desert: Nothin' but cuddlin'!
